Tottenham Hotspur have triggered an extension clause in Toby Alderweirelds contract which meansthe Belgian defender will stay at Spurs until the summer of 2020.Alderweireld was due to become a free agent at the end of the season but the club had an option in his contract to keep him for another 12 months.2

While fellow centre-backs Vertonghen and Davinson Sanchez have struggled with injuries this term, Alderweireld has been a mainstay of the side, making 26 appearances.
